Policy 1: Content Guidelines
Cademus Fleet is dedicated to being a place where great stories are told in the Star Trek universe. We encourage our writes to follow every thread of what makes us human and what makes exploration great, but we ask that you do that in line with what we’ve seen throughout Star Trek shows and movies so far. Part of this is to stay on theme, but another part is to ensure that our younger audience members are still able to enjoy our stories without concerns about content they aren’t yet ready to be exposed to.
- Portrayal of violence should be in line with what we’ve seen depicted in the Star Trek shows and television. Excessive gore or overly descriptive depictions of violence or abuse are discouraged.
- Romantic Relationships are encouraged and always an enjoyable part of any story, however we do require anything posted to the site to be age appropriate for minors. Stories involving unhealthy relationships can make for intriguing story lines, but please be conscious of your readers and tread lightly into those dicey waters.
- Language used in posts should be in line with what’s been shown in the shows. Which means you’re free to use an F-bomb here and there, but excessive cursing should be kept to a bare minimum.
- All content posted to the Cademus Fleet site should be suitable for a 13+ audience.
- Cademus Fleet reserves to right to remove posts from a published status and request rewrites in the event of violations of this policy. Multiple infractions may result in disciplinary action within the club.
- As with all things in the Club: If you’re not sure, ask.
Policy 2: Adherence to Canon
As a community of writers and Star Trek enthusiasts, we emphasize originality in storytelling as well as a deep respect for established Star Trek canon. Our members are encouraged to explore and create within these guidelines:
- Original Creations: Members are encouraged to develop their own characters, plots, and settings, fostering creativity and unique contributions within the group canon.
- Canon Alignment: While crafting stories, members should be mindful of the existing Star Trek lore, timelines, and character backstories. Deviations from canon should be thoughtful and clearly labeled as a departure from canon.
- Balancing Creativity with Canon: Members are free to interpret and expand on canon elements creatively, but should avoid alterations that fundamentally change the established Star Trek canon, unless clearly labeled.
Policy 3: Inclusivity and Diversity in Storytelling
In line with the progressive values of the Star Trek universe, our group is committed to promoting inclusivity and diversity in our storytelling. This commitment is reflected in the following guidelines:
- Diverse Characters and Cultures: Members are encouraged to create stories that include a variety of characters from diverse cultural, racial, and gender backgrounds, reflecting the rich tapestry of humanity and beyond.
- Representation Matters: Efforts should be made to portray characters and cultures in a respectful and authentic manner, avoiding stereotypes and ensuring that representation is meaningful and contributes positively to the narrative.
